World Nature Heritages

Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area

Langshan Mountain

There are two world nature heritage sites in Hunan, namely, the Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area and the Langshan Mountain.

Situated in northwest Hunan, Wulingyuan Scenic Area features geologic structure of outstanding value, beautiful physical contours, complete ecosystem, rare cultural relics and various climate and scenes. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee listed it in "Directory of World Heritage" in December, 1992.

The charm of Wulingyuan could be summarized as strange, proud, delicate, calm and bold. Wulingyuan has many huge rocks with strange appearance; some are very dangerous and steep. Standing side by side in clouds, they resemble coral emerging from the deep blue sea. Wulingshan also boasts a variety of plants, most of which will leave deep impressions on visitors’ minds with their bizarre looks. It is also the home of brooks, springs, lakes and waterfalls. The panorama here is mysterious and vague when blending with the shadow of clouds and fog. Besides, its water-eroded caves are another particularity.

In 2008, Langshan Mountain was nominated as one of the World Nature Heritages. China's Danxia landform, a type of red rock mountains unique to China, was authorized by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be added to the World Heritage List during the 34th World Heritage Convention on August 1, 2010. Then Langshan Mountain becomes the second World Nature Heritage in Hunan after Wulingyuan in Zhangjiajie.

Langshan Mountain is one of China's National Geological Parks famous for its unique Danxia landform-literally means "Crimson Glow", which is a rare topographic feature in the world. Huge rocks of dark red color in grotesque shapes present tourists a marvelous sight. It is located in Xinning County, about 500km away from Changsha, capital of Hunan province. In the south Langshan Mountain is connected with Guilin, in the north it echoes Zhangjiajie. Covering an area of 108 square kilometers, Langshan Mountain has rich natural scenery and abundant tourism resources. There are more than 500 scenic spots here, among which the most famous are Tianyi Lane, Chili Peak, Zixia Cave, Fuyi River, Innate Bridge, Octagonal Castle, Emperor Xun Forest Park and Xicun Ancient Dwelling.

Long stay in city and surrounded by skyscrapers, it is even rare to see and enjoy sunshine. Tired of city uproar, it is human's instinct yearning for pastoral life to release depression. Langshan is a good resort to make this dream come true.
